Residents of Eastern Kentucky flood impacted counties

Garrett County Community Action (GCCA) is dedicated to ensuring that safe, stable housing is accessible to all, recognizing that affordability benefits entire communities—not only those in need.

“Helping people is good for everyone,” says Chris Mullett, President and CEO of GCCA. “Unstable housing keeps people from being full participants in our community, and we need full participants.”

The organization provides over 700 units of affordable housing in a county of just 13,000 homes, preventing homelessness and unsafe living conditions. GCCA’s whole-family approach extends beyond housing, integrating services like early childhood education and senior care to improve overall well-being. Mullett believes in the long-term impact of stable housing.

“It’s cheaper to solve a problem than to leave it unsolved,” he explains, citing research showing that investing in housing costs far less than the social and economic toll of chronic homelessness.

By addressing both immediate needs and systemic challenges, GCCA is building a more resilient community.
